Summer Girl added her third blue marlin release Saturday to win the Bohicket Marina Invitational Billfish Tournament, the second leg of the 2012 South Carolina Governorís Cup Billfishing Series.
The three blue marlin releases gave Summer Girl 1,800 points. Summer Girl is owned by Steve Leasure, John Smith and Robbie Hooker.
First-day leader Miss Magnolia finished second with 1,500 points, releasing two blue marlin and a white marlin on Friday. Miss Magnolia is a Hilton Head boat owned and captained by Tram Colket.
Third place with 1,200 points went to Cotton Picker out of Savannah, owned by Gene Sauers and captained by Wynn Cowan. Cotton Picker released one blue marlin and two white marlin.
In the non-billfish divisions, Sportiní Life had the top dolphin at 53.4 pounds; Back Down had the top wahoo with a 25.2-pound catch; and Trash Man won the tuna division with a 14.2-pound blackfin.
Kimberly Smith, aboard Summer Girl, was the top lady angler for releasing a blue marlin. Gray Eubank, aboard Sportiní Life, was the top youth with a 53.4-pound dolphin.
Twenty-seven boats fished the tournament.
The next Governorís Cup event is the Carolina Billfish Classic, which will be fished out of Tolerís Cove in Mount Pleasant and Georgetown Landing.
